2.2.0 is mostly a polish patch. It focuses on enhancing and improving existing features, making Studio and Timeline feel better in daily use, and tweaking a few of the nitty gritty bits.
To update, launch Novellier and it will handle the update automatically. You can also download the latest installers below.
Formatting Studio and Marketing
- Rebuilt the preview flow so current-page changes refresh much faster while full PDF generation runs separately.
- Changed preview rendering for faster live previews and improved export reliability.
- Cleaned Studio navigation and UI, including the move from Publishing to Marketing.
- Added more contextual formatting bars for publication matter, headers, footers, credits, about-the-author pages, and related sections.
- Improved front/back matter ordering with swappable items.
- Improved controls across table of contents, cover, chapter titles, body text, headers, footers, flourishes, and colour scheme.
- Marketing overview can now be generated with Inkwell.
- Inkwell can suggest descriptions, keywords, categories, pricing, content warnings, and age ratings from internal project context while preserving user-owned fields.
Timeline
- Timeline design has been adjusted into more of a user-centric timeline tool.
- Generated moments are chapter-scoped now and cost 5 credits.
- Inkwell-generated Timeline moments now enhance matching existing events instead of replacing.
- Generated moments can now be selected, dragged, edited, imaged, and placed manually.
- Timeline markers now support higher-quality images, smoother image rendering, smaller text, bottom-aligned titles, tighter shadows, and rounded pointer-side body corners.
- Timeline saving has been protected and strengthened.
Renaming
- Scriptorium is now Series.
- Spindle is now Timeline.
- Scrapbooks are now Notes.
- Acts are now Folders.
- Vault is now Vault Backups.
- Tapestry is now Tapestry Analytics.
- Easel is now Cover Easel.
Trust and Safety
- Google Drive conflict handling now favours nonblocking recovery instead of forcing an old blocking conflict dialog.
- Sync conflict losers are captured as recovery versions or explicit backups where possible.
- Automatic chapter history has been reframed as a draft-safety system rather than a visible versioning workflow.
- Autosave and Vault Backups now avoid more user-visible stalls by batching desktop preamble work where available.
- Import regression coverage was added for nested Scrivener projects and multi-paragraph PDF extraction.
Workflow and Interface
- Enabled default slot heights for panels so smaller panels resize to their correct sizes.
- Added Interface controls for resize handles and bottom-bar sections, with resize handles defaulted off.
- Improved resize-handle layering and spacing so handles stay with the editor and panel edges.
- Expanded formatting-bar spacing, improved stats alignment, cleaned menu item colouring, and polished restore-dialog styling.
- Improved context-menu sizing so menus better match the smaller resource-panel text scale.
Resources
- Existing references, papers, Notes, and folders can now be edited inline instead of through the old edit overlay.
- Resource and folder titles can be renamed directly, with debounced saves that preserve the existing resource IDs and project persistence path.
- Resource image handling now uses placeholder upload slots, safer delete confirmations, and shared image normalisation.
- Folder colours now support custom colours and theme-driven colours.
- Folder previews now use generated placeholder imagery when contained references do not have explicit images.
- Folder headers, folder-name styling, breadcrumbs, hover states, and return headers have been cleaned up.
- Fixed first-save persistence for custom reference colours.
Atlas
- Improved Atlas drawing responsiveness by reducing pointer serialization work and keeping drawing closer to a direct visual layer.
- Improved Atlas autosave handling when leaving or closing map workflows.
- Added targeted Atlas performance reporting and reduced noisy performance logging.
Inkwell and Tapestry
- Inkwell now hides internal thinking tags from displayed responses.
- Inkwell dialogue boxes now wrap long text instead of scrolling horizontally.
- Inkwell chores now produce reviewable Apply previews for manuscript cleanup rather than leaving edits for manual copying.
- Chapter-ending checks are more careful about later chapters before declaring an ending.
- Tapestry character first/last mention stats now refresh reference analytics before calculating chapter presence.
